Developing a world-class science & innovation district

Knowledge Quarter Liverpool

This tour will showcase a dynamic neighbourhood within Liverpool City Centre, developed around the themes of knowledge, innovation and global ambition.  The Knowledge Quarter Liverpool is an innovation district located in the eastern half of the city centre. The area is home to the some of the city’s main academic and clinical institutions, including the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, The School of Tropical Medicine, The Royal Liverpool Hospital and a large cluster of knowledge-based businesses. With world-leading specialisms, such as the fight against infection and disease, materials innovation, personalised medicine, sensor technology and sports science, the Knowledge Quarter has distinguished itself from other competing cities. In addition, the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool is completely absorbed in culture and is home to the Everyman Theatre, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, two cathedrals and some of the city’s best bars and restaurants.

This tour will include some of the recent new developments, which together amount to over £1bn of investment, including the Royal Liverpool Hospital (£430m), the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (£124m), the Liverpool Life Sciences Accelerator (£24m), Materials Innovation Factory (£65m), Sensor City (£12m), Liverpool Bio Innovation Hub (£22m), and the 120,000 sq. ft.
